Happy New Year

Who hasn’t made those New Year’s resolutions that you get really excited about in January, but by mid-March your enthusiasm wanes? You know the ones: finally losing those extra ten or twenty pounds, exercising more, finishing that half-done home improvement project. We’ve all done it. We get excited about the New Year and a new beginning. We have such grand plans for making positive life changes, but we get back into the routine of life and lose sight of those plans. I know I’ve done it.

This year, though, I started thinking about it differently. Maybe I should define my life goals and use those goals to determine the changes I need to make for 2010. So, here they are, my goals not just for 2010, but for my life:

1. To look forward to heaven and not be fearful to stand before God.
2. To help someone else get to heaven.
3. To live in a state of gratitude.
4. To pray continually.
5. To hide the Word in my heart.
6. To be diligent in everything I do.
7. To love God with my heart, mind, soul, and strength.

I don’t do all of these things perfectly all of the time, but trying to live these goals is much more fulfilling than checking off a laundry list of “resolutions” that seem to come back around every year.

What are your goals? Not just for the coming year, but for your life?
